The post-Miji revolution Japan assigned more importance to expanding relations with the Orient, namely Iran. Cultural relations developed in parallel with political ties in the twentieth century: student exchange, Iranology, archeology and establishment of various institutions such as the Literature Association and the Committee for Iran-Japan Civilizations were definitive signs of the cultural element of bilateral relations.
