Abstract
Iranology, which refers to the studies related to the culture and history of the land of Iran and its people, is a significant element for the positive portrayal of a country with a rich culture and civilization like Iran in the international arena. For this reason, there is a direct relationship between Iranology and foreign policy. Regarding the centers of contemporary Iranology studies, it must be acknowledged that Europe has been one of the important regions over the past 200 years. In this context, the main centers of Iranology are concentrated in Russia, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Austria. This article examines the cultural and civilizational connections between Iran and the Iberian Peninsula, with an emphasis on the status of Iranology in Portugal. The primary subject of the research is the relations between Iran and the Iberian Peninsula, or Iberia. The main question is how and when the impacts of Iranian culture and civilization, along with independent studies of Iranology, entered this region, particularly Portugal. According to the research findings, despite the long history of historical and cultural connections, studies of Iran and Iranology have not significantly developed in the two countries of the Iberian Peninsula, unlike in other parts of Europe. The research method is descriptive-analytical, and the data are collected through library sources, historical documents, and field experiences.
