Iranology studies in Austria dates back to the time of the Ottoman invasion of  Austrian Empire territories; its kept its momentum after World War I and continued life in the modern-day Republic of Austria. For the time being, there are no dedicated Iranology seats or fields of study at any of the Austrian universities, however, research on various aspects of Iran is carried out in the Iranology Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. on the one hand, this Institute builds on the former commission’s programme for the compilation of Iran’s Encyclopedia, and on the other hand, through applying scientific research methodology, it seeks to carry out research and study the ancient and modern Iranian culture and the cultures inspired by Iranian civilization in Asia.
