An Asian Look in Contemporary Iran-Japan relations

Abstract
Although the diplomatic relations between Iran and Japan officially began on 1929, the dispatch of political emissaries had started long before this date.  During 130 years of contemporary Iran-Japan relations and interactions, numerous emissaries and envoys, at different levels, visited the two countries and several delegations were exchanged. Some of the envoys have naturally played more significant role in promoting bilateral ties between the two countries.
Studying the travel memos of Japanese and Iranians, especially memories of diplomats and political emissaries are so informative and enlightening for any researcher of Iran – Japan relations.  A significant point that one can notice in these memos is a constant way that the leaders and high ranking officials of the two countries looked at each other as two “Asian” nations.  This perspective has continued in the course of history in spite of ups and downs in international political arena.
This essay is trying to further analyze the nature of this “Asian Look” among Iranian and Japanese leaders, through the efforts and achievements of the most significant emissaries.
