The Qajar era in Iranian history was marked by innovations, political transformations, and the growing influence of foreign powers, particularly Britain. The British presence significantly shaped contemporary Iranian events, a dynamic clearly reflected in the political atmosphere of the time. Within this context, newspapers emerged as important tools for disseminating information. Among them, the “Jangal” newspaper—the official organ of the Jangal Movement—played a prominent role by reporting events and conveying the leaders’ perspectives, making it a key source for understanding this historical movement. This study, using a descriptive‑analytical approach and content analysis of the Jangal newspaper, seeks to introduce this publication and examine its reflections on Britain’s military and diplomatic positions in Iran.

The findings indicate that the Jangal newspaper served as an informative and critical medium in addressing Britain’s policies in Iran. Throughout its issues, it consistently discussed the country’s political situation and evaluated the foreign policies of major powers, especially Britain. The authors frequently criticized Britain’s colonial conduct and military interventions, particularly in Guilan. The newspaper challenged British interference in Iran’s internal affairs, the imposition of unequal treaties, and repeated violations of Iranian neutrality, reporting extensively on these aggressive actions. A central aim of the newspaper was to alert Ahmad Shah Qajar, government officials, and the Iranian public to the consequences of British policies. Its writers argued that failing to resist such colonial strategies could push Iran toward a fate similar to India’s, placing the nation’s resources and capacities at Britain’s disposal.
