چکیده
با تشکیل امپراتوری روم باستان، به‌مرور زمان رومیان نام دریای مدیترانه را تغییر دادند و عنوان mare nostrum به معنی "دریای ما" را به آن دادند. رومیان در راستای این اندیشه شمال آفریقا را نیز تصرف کردند. این مقاله با استفاده از تحقیقات تاریخی و باستانشناسی نشان میدهد، به همان صورت که دریای مدیترانه تحت عنوان "دریای ما" برای رومیان بود، خلیج‌فارس نیز برای ساسانیان عنوان "دریای ما" را داشته است. ساسانیان نیز با توجه به اندیشههای مذهبی و سیاسی، خلیج‌فارس را به‌عنوان بخشی از امپراتوری خود میدانستند و از ابتدای تشکیل حکومت‌شان در قرن سوم میلادی، برای حفظ و کنترل آن، تلاشهای منظم و مستمر انجام دادند.
